Clean the World Global is a global leader in sustainable impact solutions that aims to make the world a better place. It comprises Clean the World, which offers a Global Hospitality Recycling Program that transforms used soap bars and plastic amenities (which the hospitality industry would otherwise discard) into lifesaving, essential supplies for communities in need across the globe, and CTW Events, which provides global impact team-building experiences with a social purpose, for corporations across the globe, such as Amazon, KPMG and UPS.
Since its inception in 2009, Clean the World Global has diverted over 27 million pounds of waste from landfills, donated over 86 million bars of recycled soap to global NGOs, such as The WASH Foundation and distributed more than 5.8 million hygiene kits to individuals in need
I am particularly proud of our soap recycling project in partnership with Clean the World - since we started midway through 2023, 455kg of individual soap bars from our guest rooms have been sent to Clean the World who sanitise them, grind them down, lab test them and form them into new bars that are delivered to Clean the World Programme worldwide, in addition 1,200 newly made soap bars have been distributed to those that need it most within the surrounding areas of our hotels.
There is little reason such initiatives would not also succeed across the pond, as such initiatives foster a culture of care and responsibility, aligning personal values with organisational goals. This is an engagement strategy Clean the World is committed to, hosting events each month designed to boost engagement among employees, between different departments, and with local communities. During ‘Random Acts of Kindness Week’ for example, employees were sent to volunteers at not-for-profits such as Second Harvest Food Bank and A Gift for Teaching, as a way of giving back.
Creative Approaches to Waste Disposal. At the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina, said Shaughnessy, leftover soap bars and plastic amenities are diverted from landfills and “transformed into lifesaving supplies” through its participation in the Clean the World Recycling program. Also, leftover banquet food does not go in a general food waste bin but is designated for donation to local charities through the Chefs To End Hunger program.
Enterprises like Clean the World are at the forefront of this movement, challenging both hotel guests and establishments to adopt sustainable practices. By implementing trackable recycling programmes, Clean the World encourages hotels to recycle bathroom amenities such as soap and plastic bottled products, thereby mitigating environmental harm through reuse..
Clean the World is a social enterprise dedicated to diverting soap bars and plastic amenities used in hotels from landfills, repurposing them into new products. Working across the world with hotels such as Hilton, Hyatt, and Marriott, they have diverted 12 million kg of waste from landfills.
